Kenaf & Camelina Seed

We grow kenaf for biomass fuel in our Spring through Summer crop rotation.Planting in late March and Harvesting in October. We exclusively grow the T2 Variety and the Everglades 41 cultivar, due to their high biomass yield and appropriate traits for Florida farming.

Yields vary with rainfall and fertilizer inputs, but upwards of 20 tons an acre is possible in under 6 months.

The plant is easily cubed or pelletized both for densification, and ease of transportation.

Kenaf has a BTU similar to many hard woods, and a relatively low ash content. These traits make it an excellent Florida biomass crop.

BCAP eligible Kenaf is not only non-invasive, but has been grown by the USDA and commercial US farms since the 60's for paper pulp and super absorbent.

We have kenaf seeds available at market rates and samples of our kenaf pellets and cubes ready for delivery to facilities in need of biomass feedstock.

USCJO is licensed by the USDA to import seeds from several countries, and after we receive the seeds we test for germination and oil yield. We have found great diversity in oil content and germination rate in all the seeds we were able to legally acquire from reputable sources. Some of the acquired seeds for testing failed to reach a 25% germination rate, and other varieties tested had less than a 15% oil content. Jatropha takes three years to reach maturity, therefore, after you get the seeds to germinate and plant saplings the yield will still be unknown unless you were able to see the plantation from which they were purchased. Viewing the older trees that your saplings and seeds came from is crucial in order to verify that you are buying a high yield variety.

Our hybrid strains were started with seeds from successful operations in countries with climate and input conditions similar to Florida, these plantations are our partners now and have allowed us to tour their operations, see their groves and test their seeds prior to purchase. We have videos, pictures and studies on these strains and groves for you to review as our customer. We can also teach you the techniques we have learned over the last four years that will assure your groves success, as well as help automate your planting, pruning, and harvesting. We can take over any step of the process your unable or unwilling to initially invest in as well. We can provide contract planting, harvesting, pruning, processing as services even brokering your feedstock oil once it’s ready.
