Cattle Land

Feedstock crops are being grown extensively in Brazil on cattle ranches all over the country with great success. In fact Jatropha is used as a cattle fence all over the world, due to the aversion cattle have shown to grazing on the mildly toxic and non-edible plant. Oil seeds can be planted at a higher density, without cattle being present on the land, thus increasing yield for the grower. However, cattle friendly intercropping is possible and we are finding it to be a very attractive option for ranchers and landowners. In Florida we are able to plant Jatropha on a large scale on cattle ranches, and allow the cattle to graze in between our wide rows designed for automated harvest on the various grasses grown there. This fact allows large landowners to lease land to oil seed farmers at a reduced rate, while continuing the existing cattle operation. Cattle ranchers also leasing the land are not uprooted and in many instances are granted a better price due to the additional revenue created by the Jatropha grower, who still earns more revenue on the land from the additional revenue stream created by the oil farm lease. Everybody wins in this scenario, even the plants themselves which benefit from the manure!

Citrus Groves

Our Florida citrus industry has been decimated by canker in the past, and is now dealing with citrus greening and other disease. We are working with several large citrus companies, who are pushing dead groves and replacing them with jatropha and other feedstock crops. The Florida agricultural industry as a whole is being dramatically affected by a “perfect storm” of issues ranging from international price competition and salmonella scares to the labor shortage.

USCJO buys and leases land for our feedstock operations, and we have also customized several joint ventures and co-op growing arrangements as of late. If you are interested in feedstock farming and would like to learn more just contact us, and we will be glad to try and work together to find a way your group can get involved.

Smaller Landowners

The economy of scale for smaller feedstock farms has been researched extensively by USCJO. We are able to educate smaller landowners on equipment, processing and finished product sales information extensively. We can provide business model information scaled from 50 acres to 500,000 acres that allows potential farmers to see the ways they can turn their land into a profitable feedstock operation and take advantage of the numerous grants and subsidy programs now available from the US government. We can also provide smaller farmers with contract land preparation work, design service, planting, pruning, harvesting, on site processing and even help them by refining Biodiesel as a contract service for re-sale. Regardless of the property type, or size landowners will find our business models well though out and completely scale able.

Farm Petroleum Diesel Reduction Plan

Regardless of your farms size and main crops we can supply you with a small acreage feedstock farm design. This design will include the crops, techniques and basic equipment needed to reduce or completely eliminate your operations dependence on petroleum diesel. Imagine an orange grove or cattle ranch of 5000 acres with 300 acres of oil seed crops, and $7000 worth of processing equipment. This farm would pay an average of ¢.50 per gallon for their off-road Biodiesel, including all inputs and oil seed farm expenses.
